Inspired by the set recordings of a traditional Mennonite settlement in Argentina, John shaped a score mirroring the stretched out vocal melodies and ancient hummed tunes of the Mennonite religion, working closely with Norwegian experimental singer Natalie Sandtorv.
As Mennonite culture does not allow instruments and seldom makes use of harmony, John and Natalie restricted themselves to the use of voice and created dense unison choirs, imitating the unusual vowels and timbres. The result is a subtle and open glance at a culture that is purposefully shying away from progress and technology.
